Before you enter, what you need to know:

  • Sign-in/Registration begins at 6:00pm.  A mandatory team meeting will be held at 6:30pm.  The first round of play starts at 7:00pm.
  • You must be 21 and over
  • All boards and bags will be provided and set up for you
  • This tournament is held at City Park, 11 Longwell Ave., Westminster, MD, in the tennis courts.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.  The first offense: A warning will be issued from a tournament official.  The second offense: Forfeiture of the game being played.  The third offense:  Forfeiture of all tournament games and a personal escort off the tournament grounds.
  • Alcohol must be consumed within the designated drinking area.  If your drinking becomes a problem, you will be flagged, your team will be forfeited from the tournament and escorted off the tournament grounds.  State law prohibits bringing your own alcohol.

Cornhole Boards

  • Boards will be placed 27 feet apart (front to front).

Cornhole Bags

  • There are eight bags, with four of each color.

Playing the Game

  • In doubles play, partners shall stand at opposite cornhole boards on the same side (one player will be throwing from the right and one from the left).  Players must stand level with or behind the front of their cornhole board.
  • All 8 bags will begin at one end (the decision will be made by the winner of the coin toss).
  • Stepping in front of the board is a foul and the throw is voided.  A player may throw the bag in any manner they choose (overhand, underhand, hook shot etc.)
  • Alternate throws between the two opponents are made until all 8 bags have been thrown.
  • When both players have tossed all their cornhole bags, points are tallied.

Scoring System

  • Game scoring will be held on an honor system. If an agreement cannot be made between players, DO NOT MOVE ANYTHING, there will be a tournament official on site to make the final decision. If a bag or board is moved before an official is able to make a decision, those points will be forfeited. Do not argue with tournament officials, if you do argue you will be asked to leave the tournament. Take the official ruling and remember – it’s just a game!
  • 3 points earned for a cornhole bag that goes through the hole.
  • 1 point for a cornhole bag that lands on playing surface.
  • 1 point for the cornhole bag that is hanging into the hole but does not fall completely through.
  • 1 point is awarded if the cornhole bag is hanging off the edge but not touching the ground.
  • 0 points for a cornhole bag that is on the board, but also touching the ground.
  • 0 points for a cornhole bag that is hanging off the edge of the board and is also resting on a cornhole bag that is on the ground. If you can remove the bag on the ground without the bag on the board falling off or touching the ground, then 1 point is given. (You might want to practice your Jenga skills).

Tally the Points

  • Bags only score points for their final resting place at the end of the round. If a bag is in a scoring position but is knocked off or into another scoring position, the bag’s final position is what counts.
    • Example: If a bag was tossed onto the board in the 1-point zone, and then gets knocked through the hole by another bag, 3 points are awarded. Similarly if a bag is on the board and gets knocked off, 0 points are awarded for that bag.
  • Cancellation Scoring Method:
    • The team with the highest score for that round will add the difference of the two scores to their game score on the cornhole score tower.

Subsequent Rounds and Winning the Game

  • The player/team that won the previous round (higher score) tosses first in the next round. If the previous round was a draw, then the last team to win a round tosses first.
  • A Traditional 21 Point Game is a game played until one team reaches or exceeds 21 points. The winning team does NOT need to win by two or more points. If there is a 21 tie – additional rounds will be played until one teams has more points at the end of a round.
